UPI payments: Only 13 days are left in 2023, and with Christmas and New Year around the corner, everyone’s got a lot on their plate. But amidst the holiday hustle, don’t forget to check your digital wallets!

Why?

Because a big change is coming to UPI payments on December 31st, and it could leave some accounts out in the cold.

The government is cracking down on inactive UPI IDs to prevent fraud. This means if you haven’t used your PhonePe, Google Pay, or Paytm UPI for a whole year, it might get deactivated come January 1st. No more convenient online payments, no more quick money transfers, nada!

Don’t worry, getting back on track is easy:

  • Check your last UPI transaction: Remember that online food order from last Christmas? That counts! Just make sure you’ve sent or received money through your UPI at least once in the past year.
  • If your account is inactive: Don’t panic! Most platforms will ask you to verify your phone number or update your details before deactivating. Just follow the prompts and you’ll be good to go.
  • Still facing trouble? Contact your bank or platform’s customer support. They’ll help you reactivate your account or create a new one with updated KYC information.

Remember, this deadline applies to ALL UPI platforms, not just your favorite one. Spread the word to your friends and family, especially those who might not be frequent digital payment users.
